Doing the Work, Reaping the Rewards

A homeless Black man holds his head high

We are proud of all the men we serve in our programs. Here are two who have overcome, graduated, and moved on to live productive, fruitful lives:

Kevin (pictured above) struggled with an addiction to alcohol, opiates and meth for 12 years. He came to the mission with these priorities: work on his faith, tackle sobriety, and get his commercial driver’s license. Kevin graduated from the Life Recovery Program at the end of September and moved to our Transitional Housing Program. With help from his family he enrolled in truck drivers’ school, which he has completed. He has strong family support in Lompoc and Santa Maria, as well as strong church support.

David had battled an alcohol addiction for four years prior to entering the Life Recovery Program in October 2017. He graduated in June and has been working in the agriculture business in Santa Maria. David saved up his earnings to purchase a vehicle, which he intends to use to seek employment in the oil industry, a career he desires to return to as a sober and much happier man.

He covets prayer in the coming months, as his thoughts have now focused on graduating from the transitional living program and finding stable housing, as well as his future career endeavors. David’s home church is Pacific Christian Center. The program staff can attest to how much David has matured since his entry date a year ago. Once rebellious and apathetic, David has been completely transformed by Jesus and we are all proud of and encouraged by his progress.
